England’s injury concerns persist as Bukayo Saka completes solo training before Ghana encounter

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka is managing a minor injury concern as England continue their World Cup campaign in the United States.

The winger skipped England’s group training session on Saturday, instead following a tailored individual fitness programme, as the team gears up to face Ghana in their second World Cup fixture.

Saka’s participation in Tuesday’s clash at Foxborough now appears uncertain, with indications suggesting he may not start the match.

England began their World Cup journey on a positive note, securing victory over Croatia in a thrilling opening game. A win against Ghana would guarantee them a spot in the round of 32, though it remains unclear if one of their key attacking players will be ready to feature.

The Arsenal forward joined the national team camp carrying an ongoing Achilles issue, which restricted him to a substitute appearance of less than 20 minutes against Croatia. In his absence, Noni Madueke was selected to start on the right wing.

It seems unlikely that Saka will start against Ghana either, as he continued to train separately on Tuesday, three days before the upcoming fixture.

Head coach Thomas Tuchel remains optimistic that Saka will recover sufficiently to be available for a full 90 minutes when England take on Panama in their final group-stage encounter.

Saka was the sole absentee from Saturday’s training session. Both Harry Kane and Declan Rice, who left the Croatia match with minor issues, were fit enough to participate in the session at the Swope Soccer Village.

Trevoh Chalobah, who received a late call-up following Tino Livramento’s injury in training, also took part in a full team session for the first time.

England’s weekend training attracted some special guests, as players from Major League Baseball sides Kansas City Royals and St Louis Cardinals attended the session at Swope Soccer Village to watch the national team prepare.
