Actor Priya Anand believes Balaramana Dinagalu is far more than a conventional gangster drama. The actor, who returns to Kannada cinema with director KM Chaitanya ’s period film, says the emotional depth of the story was what drew her to the project. Produced by Padmavathi Jayaram and Shreyas under the Padmavathi Films banner, the film releases in theatres on June 26. Speaking to Bangalore Times, Priya says it was Chaitanya’s approach to storytelling that convinced her to sign the film. “I wasn’t very familiar with Chaitanya sir’s filmography, but during our first conversation, his intent with the film and the way he wanted to present the characters really stood out.”
She adds that the film offers a fresh take on the gangster genre. “Even though it’s set in the 1980s and is a gangster film , it isn’t built around machismo. I get to be an active participant in Balarama’s life, influencing his daily decisions and life choices. In many ways, the film explores the vulnerable, human side of these larger-than-life characters, and that’s what made the role exciting for me.” Priya also praises co-star Vinod Prabhakar, saying, “It’s rare to see someone who hasn’t forgotten why they wanted to become an actor in the first place. His passion is infectious.”
“Watching a film today is an investment of both time and money. The filmmakers must make that worthwhile. I hope the music by Santosh Narayanan and the story create enough curiosity for audiences to come and experienceBalaramana Dinagalu on the big screen.”
