Importance of Yoga: International Yoga Day is scheduled to be celebrated across the world on Sunday, June 21, 2026. This time the 12th International Yoga Day is being celebrated. This year’s theme is ‘Yoga for Healthy Aging’. (Yoga for Healthy Aging) has been decided. This theme tells us how to keep ourselves active, self-reliant and fit even in old age. On this special occasion, India’s famous personalized hair health platform Traya has released the biggest and shocking report till date regarding the lifestyle and health of the people of the country.
This entire report is based on data from a diagnostic hair test conducted in March 2026. 9,42,451 Indians from across the country took part in this test, which included 5,62,088 men and 3,80,363 women. In this analysis, along with the health of people’s hair, three basic habits like their sleeping patterns, mental stress and stomach health have been investigated. This huge data of about 9.5 lakh Indians testifies that in today’s time, getting good health is not a hobby or a luxury, but our biggest need.
Yoga is a sure cure for stress and poor sleep
In this survey, two biggest problems have come to light among the urban population of the country – the first is not sleeping properly at night and the second is mental stress. The matter of relief is that both these are such problems which can be completely cured by doing yoga regularly. Science and many types of research have also proved that by doing yoga daily, one falls asleep quickly as soon as one lies down in bed, sleep time increases and the problem of frequent opening of eyes at night is eliminated.

Similarly, there is no comparison between yoga and pranayam in reducing mental stress. Doctors say that doing yoga helps in reducing cortisol which increases stress in the body. Hormone levels decrease. This removes everyday worries and anxiety and the person becomes mentally strong and happy.
Urban environment and work pressure are destroying peace
A very special geographical pattern has been seen in this report. South Indian states top the list in terms of sleep deprivation and stress for both men and women. Whereas, if we talk about cities, metropolitan cities like Chennai and Hyderabad have consistently remained on top in this list.
The data presented in Traya’s report clearly indicates that lifestyle factors like the hustle and bustle of cities, the environment there, work pressure and changing work culture are affecting everyone irrespective of gender. However, in terms of sleep, the workload of women has been seen to be about 6% more than that of men, which shows that working women are facing slightly more sleep problems.

These figures on this year’s Yoga Day make us think that Yoga is not just a cultural festival or formality celebrated once a year on 21st June. Considering the kind of mental stress and diseases that India’s urban population is facing today, doing yoga every morning has become more important and mandatory for our health than ever before.
