The Madhya Pradesh High Court has lifted the interim stay on conducting the Main Examination for the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) State Service Examination (SSE)-2025. With this decision, the year-long wait for approximately 4,000 aspirants seeking appointments to posts such as Deputy Collector, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Tehsildar, and other state-level positions has come to an end. Candidates who have cleared the preliminary examination will now be able to appear for the main examination. A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Vivek Rusia and Justice Pradeep Mittal passed this order on Thursday while hearing petitions challenging certain provisions and procedures related to the examination process.
On April 2, 2025, the High Court had directed that the State Service Main Examination should not be conducted without its permission. Senior Advocate Rameshwar Thakur, representing the petitioners, argued that a final decision on their petitions was unlikely to be reached in the near future. Therefore, the stay on the main examination should be lifted, and the remaining legal issues could be heard separately at a later stage.
Rameshwar Thakur stated that the division bench accepted this request, lifted the interim stay, and granted permission to the MPPSC to conduct the main examination. The petitions, among other things, challenge the constitutional validity of rules regarding the non-disclosure of category-wise cut-off marks for the SSE-2025 preliminary examination.
Rameshwar noted that the petitioners also raised the issue that meritorious candidates from reserved categories were not selected for unreserved posts. Candidates who availed benefits such as age relaxation and other concessions were not transferred to the unreserved category.
He added that during the hearing, the MPPSC submitted the category-wise cut-off marks to the court in a sealed envelope but did not provide a clear response to the issues raised in the petitions. The next hearing in the matter is scheduled for July 17.
