Travelers using the Pathankot–Mandi National Highway are encountering significant risks due to numerous potholes in the Wanoi area, which have remained unaddressed for several months. Local residents are sounding alarms about the life-threatening conditions, particularly with the onset of the monsoon season.
According to locals, rainwater accumulates in the potholes, obscuring their depth and creating a perilous situation for motorcyclists. Many individuals have lost their balance and fallen, resulting in injuries. The risk escalates at night when the potholes are difficult to see, yet heavy traffic continues to navigate this busy route.
Drivers frequently make abrupt maneuvers to avoid these craters, increasing the likelihood of collisions and serious accidents. Vulnerable groups, including schoolchildren, women, and elderly pedestrians, are particularly at risk.
Residents have voiced their frustration regarding the NHAI’s inaction, noting that their repeated complaints have gone unacknowledged. They are calling on the NHAI and local authorities to address the potholes urgently before the monsoon worsens, emphasizing that proactive measures are crucial to prevent a potential disaster.
