Marathi Language Certificate Compulsory For Maharashtra Auto Taxi Driver: Maharashtra government has taken a big decision for auto rickshaw and taxi drivers. Let us tell you that now it will be mandatory for the Amarathi i.e. non-Marathi speaking auto and taxi drivers working in the state to acquire basic knowledge of Marathi language. In this matter, the government has made it clear that after August 15, 2026, legal and punitive action will be taken against drivers who do not have Marathi language certificate.
Marathi language certificate will now be mandatory
For your information, let us tell you that the Transport Department has made a four-hour Marathi language communication course mandatory for all Amrathi rickshaw and taxi drivers from June 1 to August 15, 2026. Its purpose is to ease communication between passengers and drivers and improve the quality of service. Regarding which the government believes that language problems often create misunderstandings between passengers and drivers. In such a situation, after getting basic knowledge of Marathi language, communication will become more easy and effective.
Only certificates from these institutions will be valid
Maharashtra State Marathi Language Department, Konkan Marathi Sahitya Parishad and Mumbai Marathi Sahitya Sangh have been authorized to provide training to the people. Only the certificate issued by these institutions will be considered valid. Not only this, the Transport Department has clarified that certificates from private or other institutions will not be accepted.
71 study centers in MMR
On this matter, Assistant Commissioner of Transport Department, Ravi Gaikwad said that the training campaign is going on at a fast pace in Mumbai Metropolitan Region i.e. MMR. For this, 71 study centers have been activated. Where drivers can get free training. At the same time, about four and a half thousand teachers of Konkan Marathi Sahitya Parishad are also cooperating to make this campaign successful. Not only this, officials of various RTO offices are providing necessary guidance and assistance to the drivers.
There will be no relaxation after August 15
In view of the matter, the Transport Department has appealed to all the drivers to complete the training on time and obtain the certificate. Regarding which the department has also clarified that after August 15, 2026, action will be taken against Amrathi drivers without certificates as per rules. Regarding which experts say that this step can provide a better experience to the passengers as well as create new business opportunities for the drivers because knowledge of the local language is seen as an important skill in the service sector.
