Manchester United are reportedly considering a move to sign Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow on a free transfer as part of their plans to restructure their goalkeeping department. According to The Athletic, discussions have taken place at Old Trafford regarding the 35-year-old, who qualifies as a homegrown player.

Darlow is preparing to conclude his three-year stint at Elland Road, during which he made 38 appearances for Leeds. With United expected to look for a new backup goalkeeper, the veteran shot-stopper has emerged as a potential target.

Leeds United are understood to be keen on retaining Darlow, but the uncertainty surrounding his chances of regular first-team action has complicated negotiations. Given his ambitions to maintain a place in the Wales national team, consistent playing time will likely be a crucial factor in his decision, and he is expected to seek assurance over his role before committing to a new deal.

Earlier this month, Leeds listed both Alex Cairns and Darlow as players in contract discussions, while also indicating the possibility of entering the market for another goalkeeper. The report further noted that Darlow might prioritise securing a starting position next season, a preference that could make a move to Old Trafford less likely.

With Illian Meslier’s departure leaving a gap in Leeds’ goalkeeping ranks, the club’s options are currently limited. Lucas Perri remains among their available choices, though his future is uncertain despite his £15.6 million transfer just a year ago.

Former Premier League scout Mick Brown has stated that Leeds are seeking a new first-choice goalkeeper and would consider offers that allow them to recover their investment in Perri. The club could then reinvest those funds in a replacement, with Braga’s Lukas Hornicek reportedly on their radar following his impressive performances in Portugal’s top division.
