Marcus Rashford continues to have his eyes set firmly on one destination this summer.
As reported by SPORT, the Manchester United forward remains intent on securing a permanent switch to Barcelona, with the recent arrival of Anthony Gordon doing little to alter his stance.
Rashford’s impressive display at the World Cup has added further intrigue to his situation. Coming off the bench, he netted a composed goal in England’s 4-2 victory over Croatia, calmly slotting the ball into the far corner.
Manchester United are hopeful that such performances will enhance his market value throughout the tournament, thereby strengthening the club’s position in any potential negotiations.
However, this has not shifted Rashford’s main objective. Having spent last season on loan at Camp Nou, the Englishman believes he has unfinished business in Catalonia.
Under the guidance of Hansi Flick, Rashford thrived, contributing 14 goals and 14 assists as Barcelona clinched the LaLiga title. The German coach has been vocal about his desire to keep the forward at the club.
Reports suggest that Rashford is willing to wait until late in the transfer window for a permanent move to be reignited, though significant challenges remain.
Barcelona have already brought in Gordon for a substantial fee and allowed their €30 million option to buy Rashford to expire on June 15. With Gordon expected to occupy the left flank, the Catalan side no longer consider Rashford worth that valuation.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are seeking a permanent transfer rather than another loan spell. The club has also refused to reduce their asking price, even as Barcelona attempt to negotiate a lower deal.
In an effort to facilitate the move, Rashford has reportedly agreed to take a pay cut to ease concerns over his wages.
His persistence could prove crucial. By holding out for Barcelona instead of entertaining other offers, Rashford may increase the pressure on all parties as the summer window progresses and his options narrow.
