Co-hosts Mexico became the first team to book their place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 round of 32 after defeating South Korea 1-0 at Guadalajara Stadium on Friday. Luis Romo scored the only goal shortly after halftime, capitalizing on a defensive mix-up involving goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu.
Mexico goalkeeper Raul Rangel preserved the lead with a stunning double save in the closing minutes. The victory secured top spot in Group A with one match remaining. Mexico will face a third-placed team in the knockout stage on June 30, while South Korea remain second and still in contention for qualification.
