Co-hosts Canada will take on 2018 hosts Qatar in their Group B encounter at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Both sides are still chasing their maiden victory in the tournament, having drawn their opening fixtures after coming from behind against Bosnia & Herzegovina and Switzerland respectively.
Canada’s star left-back Alphonso Davies, who missed the first match due to injury, is expected to feature today after head coach Jesse Marsch hinted at a potential cameo appearance. The 25-year-old Bayern Munich defender endured another injury-hit season, and the German champions are reportedly close to signing German international Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt as part of their defensive reinforcement plans.
Marsch has made two changes from the side that started against Bosnia, bringing in Ali Ahmed and striker Cyle Larin into the starting eleven. Meanwhile, Qatar head coach Julen Lopetegui has opted to retain the same lineup that earned a draw against Switzerland.
Canada XI: Crepeau; Johnston, De Fougerolles, Cornelius, Laryea; Buchanan, Kone, Estaquio ©, Ahmed; David, Larin
Qatar XI: Abunada; Al-Oui, Pedro Miguel, Khoukhi ©, Al Amin; Madibo, Laye, Gaber; Edmilson Junior, Abdurisag, Afif
