Fire Erupts Along I-15 in Fallbrook, California: Immediate Threat to Nearby Structures

A vehicle fire ignited nearby vegetation on Thursday afternoon along the northbound lanes of Interstate 15 in Fallbrook, close to San Diego, California. This incident resulted in significant smoke plumes that could be seen from a distance, as reported by local news sources. The fire was first detected around 1:30 p.m. local time, just south of Mission Road along the I-15 corridor. It rapidly expanded, consuming 8 acres in a brief period and is now classified as an immediate threat to nearby structures. The fire's spread rate has been described as moderate.

Traffic on the interstate has been impacted, with the off-ramp at US-395 and Mission Road currently closed.

Firefighting Efforts Underway Firefighting Operations

CAL FIRE San Diego and the North County Fire Protection District are actively engaged in firefighting efforts under a unified command. The incident has been designated as the Mission Fire.

According to CAL FIRE San Diego, firefighters are on-site addressing the vegetation fire near Northbound Interstate 15 and south of East Mission Road in Fallbrook. The agency noted that the fire is spreading at a moderate pace, posing a threat to nearby structures.

The North County Fire Protection District also confirmed the fire's origin, stating that their crews are responding to a vehicle fire in the vicinity of NB 15 south of Mission Road in Fallbrook, which has spread to the surrounding vegetation. A full vegetation response has been initiated.

CAL FIRE is advising residents to avoid the area if possible.

Evacuation Preparedness Be Prepared for Evacuations

With structures in jeopardy, residents in the vicinity should be ready to evacuate swiftly if necessary. CAL FIRE suggests having an emergency go bag prepared at all times during wildfire season. This bag should ideally contain a three-day supply of non-perishable food, three gallons of water per person, essential medications, a change of clothes, spare eyeglasses or contact lenses, and copies of important documents such as passports and birth certificates. Additionally, a first aid kit, flashlight, battery-powered radio with extra batteries, spare car keys, cash or cards, and pet supplies should be included. A map indicating at least two evacuation routes is also recommended.

Furthermore, CAL FIRE advises keeping sturdy shoes and a flashlight near your bed for quick access during nighttime evacuations. If time permits, consider gathering valuables, family photos, hard drives, and chargers for phones and laptops.
