ChatGPT can now automate your recurring tasks
18 Jun 2026

OpenAI has announced the launch of a new feature, 'Scheduled Tasks,' for its AI chatbot, ChatGPT.

The innovative addition allows users to automate actions at specific times or under defined conditions.

The update marks a major step in transforming ChatGPT from a reactive assistant into a proactive agent capable of managing workflows across apps and services.

How the new feature works
Feature details

The 'Scheduled Tasks' feature allows users to set ChatGPT to trigger actions at a chosen time or date.

It can also automate recurring tasks like sending reminders, generating reports, or summarizing emails.

The feature integrates with connected apps such as calendars and productivity tools, building on ChatGPT's agentic capabilities by enabling it to proactively execute tasks in the background.

How to view and manage your scheduled tasks
Task management

Users can view and manage their tasks directly from the Settings menu in ChatGPT.

By going to Settings > Notifications and selecting Manage tasks, they can see a list of all their scheduled actions.

The full task list is also accessible from any individual task by clicking on the three-dot menu and selecting Manage tasks.

Editing or pausing a task
Task modification

To edit or pause a created task, users just have to click on the task pill or title in their chat.

This opens a sidebar where they can edit, pause, manage, or delete tasks.

If you want to disable notifications for any of the mobile or desktop apps, this can be done from the Notifications settings on ChatGPT.

Things to remember
Task limitations

The 'Scheduled Tasks' feature is available on all ChatGPT models except Pro models. Your usage limits will also apply to these tasks.

If you reach your active task limit, ChatGPT won't be able to create a new one unless you pause/delete an existing active task or it completes per its schedule.

Voice chats and GPTs are not supported with this feature.

Fact

Alongside unveiling an updated task scheduling experience, OpenAI has announced that Pulse will be discontinued within the next 14 days and recommended scheduled tasks as an alternative for receiving daily briefings. The feature had a short run, having launched only in September.
