Kerala Weather LATEST Update: Rainfall activity is expected to intensify across Kerala over the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of isolated heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms

The southwest monsoon is showing renewed strength across Kerala, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue fresh rainfall warnings. According to the latest forecast, isolated places across the state could experience heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over the next few days.

Weather officials have indicated that rainfall intensity is likely to increase, particularly in central and southern parts of Kerala, as favourable atmospheric conditions continue to support monsoon activity.

The IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for seven districts, signalling the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall.

The districts under alert are:

  • Pathanamthitta
  • Kottayam
  • Idukki
  • Ernakulam
  • Thrissur
  • Palakkad
  • Malappuram

A Yellow Alert is issued when rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm is expected within a 24-hour period. Residents in these areas are advised to remain cautious, especially in regions prone to waterlogging, minor flooding and travel disruptions.

Rain Expected in Several Districts Over the Next Few Hours

The weather department has also forecast light rainfall at isolated locations over the next few hours in several parts of the state. Districts likely to receive showers include:

Thiruvananthapuram

Kollam

Alappuzha

Kottayam

Ernakulam

Idukki

Thrissur

Wayanad

Kasaragod

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning may occur in some areas, and residents are advised to take necessary precautions during adverse weather conditions.
