Indian captain Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan have scored centuries in the second ODI match being played against Afghanistan in Lucknow. Instead of opening, Shubman, who came at number 3, completed his century in 77 balls. This was the 9th century of his ODI career and first century as captain. After the dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal (4) in the second over, Shubman, who came to the crease along with Rohit Sharma (48), rescued India from the initial shock and then along with Ishaan, worsened the condition of Afghanistan.
Shortly after Shubman scored his century, Ishaan completed his century in 71 balls. This wicketkeeper batsman, who was making a comeback in the Indian ODI team, scored a half-century in 52 balls. After this he changed gears and covered the distance from 50 to 100 runs in just 16 balls. This was Ishaan’s second ODI century for Team India. He played a memorable inning of 210 runs against Bangladesh in December 2022. After this, this is Ishaan’s first ODI century.
India crossed the 300 mark in the 36th over.
Thanks to the century innings of Shubman and Ishaan, India touched the 300-run mark in 35.5 overs. This was the fourth fastest 300 runs by a team batting first in the history of ODI cricket. England had crossed this figure in 33.1 overs against Australia in 2018. The Indian team reached 300 runs in 34.1 overs against Sri Lanka in 2009 and in 35.4 overs against Bangladesh in 2022. With the explosive batting of Shubman-Ishaan, Team India has now scored 300 runs in 36 overs for the third time.
