Love Island presenter Maya Jama has spoken publicly for the first time about her much-discussed breakup with Manchester City defender Ruben Dias, putting an end to weeks of media and fan speculation. The television star addressed the rumours surrounding the conclusion of their 18-month relationship, which came to an end in April.
Jama finally breaks her silence
Maya Jama has now opened up about her split from Ruben Dias, sharing her views on relationships and how she handles being in the public eye. In response to a podcast conversation about her private life, the 31-year-old took to social media to explain her perspective on love and privacy.
“The truth is, even when I tried to keep my relationships private, we still get photographed. I’m an all or nothing kind of girl — I don’t casually date. So yes, I’ll love openly or not at all, and if it ends, it ends. I decided a long time ago not to let public opinion dictate my personal choices,” she wrote.
The television host, who recently returned to screens for the new season of Love Island, seemed to hint at embracing a new phase of her life by sharing a video of herself singing about “changes.”
Their breakup ends a relationship that reportedly began in November 2024, when the two first met, before confirming their romance publicly in April the following year.
Dias responds to cheating rumours
While Maya Jama has focused on moving forward, Ruben Dias has taken a more direct stance in addressing the persistent tabloid rumours following their breakup. The Manchester City centre-back felt compelled to speak out after reports accused him of infidelity, saying that the false stories had begun to affect his family.
In a detailed statement, Dias explained his reasons for responding: “When my 85-year-old grandfather starts asking me whether I cheated on my girlfriend because he’s seen it repeatedly on the news, that’s when I draw the line between what’s acceptable and what’s not.”
He further clarified: “Maya and I have always shared a relationship based on mutual respect. No boundaries were ever crossed in that sense.”
Online activity stirs controversy
Despite his denials, fresh reports have continued to emerge regarding Dias’s social media habits toward the end of the relationship. Sources claimed he engaged in an online behaviour known as “toe-dipping” — following and quickly unfollowing influencers to test interest.
He was allegedly in contact with model Catarina Duraes and another woman named Claire in late 2025 and early 2026, although no evidence has surfaced to suggest any physical infidelity.
Ruben Dias dismissed these claims as “clickbait,” asserting that not every breakup stems from betrayal. He added, “I’ve always preferred to stay silent on such issues because my personal life is my own. But it’s also wrong to mislead people and paint a false picture of someone just to attract clicks.”
Shifting focus back to football
With his personal matters addressed, Ruben Dias is now turning his attention to football as he prepares to represent Portugal in the upcoming 2026 World Cup. The Portuguese national team is set to compete in a group that includes DR Congo, Uzbekistan, and Colombia.
The Manchester City defender will aim to put his off-field distractions behind him and concentrate on leading Portugal’s defensive line as they chase global success this summer.
