Ho Chi Minh City: In a major action, police in Vietnam have rescued about 500 pet cats before they were sent to the slaughterhouse. These cats were locked in cages. In this case, the police have also arrested nine people of a gang involved in smuggling of pet animals. The accused have confessed during interrogation that they had been trapping and catching pet cats from different cities of Southern Vietnam for the last three years. It took several days for the police to trace these cats. About 40 of these cats have been handed over to their rightful owners. However, many cats died due to being kept in very poor conditions.
In fact, there were complaints of mass disappearance of pets in Ho Chi Minh City. After this the police started investigation and reached this gang. Police found 400 live cats kept in 45 cages. Apart from this, 80 dead cats were also kept in thermocol boxes filled with ice. 21 more cats were recovered from another place. More than 500 cats were rescued in this entire operation.
Many of the rescued cats were pregnant. Some of them even gave birth to children under police surveillance. Many families became emotional after getting their beloved cats back from the clutches of smugglers. At the same time, there were many people who did not find their cats and returned disappointed.
Let us tell you that eating cat and dog meat is not illegal in Vietnam. But those doing this business are required to have a specific license. Besides, they also have to tell from where they have brought the animals.
