Yoga Yatra from Gangotri to Gangasagar: Thousands of people did mass yoga practice at Ravidas Ghat in Kashi.

Varanasi, 17 June. A grand yoga awareness program was organized at Ravidas Ghat on the banks of Ganga under the ‘Gangotri to Gangasagar’ yoga campaign in the country’s cultural capital Kashi. A large number of local citizens, yoga connoisseurs and people living on the banks of Ganga performed yoga together and made the program memorable. The objective of this campaign is to spread the message of Yoga to the people from Gangotri, the origin of Mother Ganga, to Gangasagar, its confluence.

While addressing the program, Uttar Pradesh Government Minister Dayashankar Mishra ‘Dayalu’ said that this yatra will start from Gangotri and continue till Gangasagar. The campaign, being run by a joint effort of the Ministry of AYUSH, AYUSH Mission and Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, will run for a week on the eve of World Yoga Day (June 21).

The Minister also said that this campaign is not limited to cities only but efforts are being made to take Yoga to river banks, nectar ponds of villages, mythological sites, religious and historical places and parks. He said, ‘Our main goal is to connect every section of the society with yoga. It is moving forward under the inspiration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Director General of AYUSH Department Chaitravi said that the ‘Gangotri to Gangasagar’ series was started from Gangotri on June 14. After this, programs have been organized in Rishikesh, Haridwar and Prayagraj. Now this event was organized in Varanasi on 17th June.

Referring to this year’s International Yoga Day theme ‘Yoga for Healthy Aging’, he said, “Yoga not only provides physical health but also mental peace and spiritual energy. Yoga practice on the banks of Ganga has special significance. We are spreading the message of ‘Do Yoga, Stay Healthy’ across the country.”

The event is being organized to commemorate the 12th International Yoga Day, with an effort to promote health, environmental and spiritual awareness through yoga on the banks of the Ganga.
