Bhopal: Kakanmath Temple, located in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh, has remained the center of attraction for people for a long time due to its amazing architecture and mysterious stories. This ancient Shiva temple present in Sihoniya village of the district is not only an important place of faith, but there are many stories prevalent among the tourists regarding its construction, which attracts history lovers.
What is religious belief?
According to local beliefs, this temple was not built by ordinary humans but by supernatural powers. This story is quite popular among the elders of the village that this temple was being built by ghosts in a single night, but the construction work could not be completed before sunrise. For this reason the temple remained incomplete. Due to this story, many mysterious discussions are heard about the temple even today.
When was the temple built
However, historians and archeology experts consider this folk tale to be different from historical facts. According to him, Kakanmath temple was built in the 11th century during the Kachhapaghat dynasty. It is believed that the then ruler King Kirtiraj had built this grand temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is considered a magnificent example of the excellent architecture and engineering skills of that period.
How was the temple constructed?
This temple, about 100 feet high, is made of huge stones. Its most special thing is that the use of modern cement or mortar is not visible anywhere in the structure. Despite this, this temple has been standing strong for centuries. Even after facing time, weather and natural challenges, its grandeur remains intact till today.

Located at a distance of about 35 kilometers from Morena city, this historical heritage can be easily reached by road. The season between October to March is considered the best to visit here. The religious importance, historical heritage and mystery stories make Kakanmath temple among the major tourist destinations of Madhya Pradesh.
