Telegram Ban: After so many cases of paper leaks, the Central Government has taken a big step and imposed a temporary ban on Telegram to make the RE-NEET exam completely transparent and free from paper leaks. Since taking this new step, a question has become increasingly discussed among students and parents that despite the existence of popular messaging platforms like WhatsApp and Signal, why is the action being taken only on Telegram? For your information, let us tell you that according to cyber security experts and investigative agencies, some special features of Telegram make it very useful for paper leak gangs and online fraudsters.
Easy to hide identity
As everyone knows that Telegram is an international platform whose servers are present outside India. Due to which it is not easy for Indian agencies to identify suspicious accounts and obtain their data. In this, the time taken in the investigation process gives the criminals an opportunity to erase their traces and escape and this is the reason why many times cyber criminals and paper leak networks consider it safer to use this platform.
Group feature with 2 lakh members becomes a big problem
The most famous feature in Telegram is to create large groups. Where it is seen that in any other messaging apps the number of members in the group is limited. But on Telegram, up to 2 lakh people can be added to a group. In such a situation, paper leak gangs take advantage of this special feature and send fake question papers and rumors to thousands and lakhs of students before the examination. With this feature, information is spread to a large number of people within a few minutes.
A protective shield of secret chats and encryption
It has also been seen that the Secret Chats feature of Telegram has also been a topic of discussion among the people for a long time. In which end-to-end encryption is available and the conversation remains limited to the sender and receiver only. This is the reason why many times people involved in illegal activities are able to easily conduct transactions and confidential conversations using this feature.
Net spreads in minutes through bot API
For your information, let us tell you that Telegram’s Open Bot API allows developers to create automated bots. But it has been seen that this feature is used for many legitimate purposes, yet cyber thugs misuse it and commit cases like phishing links, fake paper sales and online fraud.
Big decision taken after UP STF action
Let us tell you that the Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh Police had exposed a racket which was extorting lakhs of rupees from students on the pretext of giving them genuine question papers through Telegram channels. In such a situation, the investigating agencies believed that merely removing the channel would not solve the problem. After this, to maintain the fairness of the RE-NEET exam, the government has decided to temporarily ban the access of Telegram.
