FIH Hockey Nations Cup: Indian women enter semi-finals with second consecutive win, after America, Japan also defeated

auckland16 june. India continued its winning campaign in the FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup here on Tuesday and secured a place in the semi-finals by defeating Japan 2-1 with goals from captain Salima Tete and Lalremsiami.

This was the Indians’ second consecutive win in Pool A of the tournament. They defeated America 3-2 in their first match. The winning team of this tournament will play in the FIH Pro League in the next season. India was out of this tournament last season.

Captain Salima Tete and Lalremsiami scored goals

The first two quarters of the match played at North Harbor Hockey Stadium remained goalless. India opened the scoring in the third quarter when Salima Tete scored in the 33rd minute after several unsuccessful attempts from the forward players. However, India’s lead did not last long and Japan leveled the score just two minutes later with Ai Hiramitsu’s goal.

However, Lalremsiami scored a goal in the 49th minute which proved to be decisive in the end. Japan played aggressively in the last moments but India foiled its attacks and won.

 

India will now meet Uruguay on June 18

India has the maximum of six points in the pool of four teams, while America and Japan have three points each from two matches. The United States defeated Uruguay 7-2 in the day’s second match. Uruguay, who have faced defeat in both the matches so far, will meet India in the final league match on June 18.

New Zealand in semi-finals from Pool B

On the other hand, in Pool B, New Zealand defeated Chile 3-2 and achieved its second consecutive win and secured a place in the semi-finals. In the group, Chile is in second place with three points from two matches, while the teams of Korea and France, whose meeting today ended in a 1-1 draw, have been able to collect one point each from two matches.
