G7 Summit: PM Modi joins world leaders for traditional group photo

Evian Les Bains (France), 16 June. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday joined several global leaders for the traditional group photo session at the 52nd G7 summit in Evian Les Bains, France.

In this special photo, many important leaders of the world were also included with PM Modi, including European Council President Antonio Costa, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, US President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, President of the European Commission. Ursula von der Leyen and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

PM Modi and Trump Met after 16 months, shook hands at G7 summit

PM Modi and US President Donald Trump met during the G7 summit. During this, both the leaders were seen shaking hands with each other and also had a brief conversation. This is the first time in almost 16 months that PM Modi and Trump have met. Earlier, both the leaders had met in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington DC in February 2025. Then Trump took oath as US President for the second time only about a month ago, but since then there has been a lot of tension in India-US relations.

Macron welcomed PM Modi at the venue

French President Emmanuel Macron welcomes Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the venue of the G7 Summit 2026 in Evian, France, before taking a group photo. On the official invitation of the French President, PM Modi had reached the French city on Tuesday itself to attend this high-profile meeting. This special invitation marks India’s 13th participation in the Summit as a partner country, and the seventh consecutive time that the Prime Minister is attending the global forum.

Before reaching France, PM Modi met Swiss President Parmelin in Geneva

On his way back to France from Slovakia, Prime Minister Modi stopped briefly in Geneva, Switzerland and met the President of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin, and launched his European diplomatic initiative. Giving information about this brief stop, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the two leaders warmly greeted each other and reiterated their shared commitment to further strengthen the India-Switzerland partnership.

Following these initial diplomatic meetings, PM Modi will participate in an important working session titled “Forging New Partnerships and Rebuilding International Solidarity”, outlining India’s active participation in Evian.

In this session, heads of G7 countries, partner countries and major global financial institutions like the World Bank and African Development Bank will come together. It is expected to discuss international cooperation, sustainable development and serious global economic challenges. Apart from these group sessions, the Prime Minister’s schedule is packed with several high-level diplomatic meetings during the event. He will hold important bilateral meetings with several world leaders, including Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Important bilateral meeting between PM Modi and Trump on Wednesday

Along with this busy diplomatic schedule, an important bilateral meeting of PM Modi with US President Donald Trump is also going to be held on June 17. The White House has confirmed that in this meeting, special attention will be paid to taking forward the proposed India-US trade agreement.

Before reaching France, PM Modi’s visit to Slovakia was an important stop in his diplomatic visits to many countries. The visit was historic as it was the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister since the Central European country gained independence in 1993. This initial phase of the visit witnessed a major improvement in bilateral relations between the two countries. Both sides elevated their relations to the level of ‘Comprehensive Partnership’, opening the way for better cooperation in technology, defence, trade, education, innovation and people-to-people ties.

Expressing happiness over the successful completion of that historic visit to Slovakia, just before going to the G7 forum, PM Modi said, ‘Slovakia’s historic and fruitful visit is coming to an end. The outcome of this visit will prove to be very helpful in strengthening bilateral relations between our countries. Our youth will greatly benefit from strengthened trade relations. I am grateful to the government of Slovakia and its people for their love. I am also very grateful to Prime Minister Fico for coming to see me off.

Describing the sequence of the Prime Minister’s visit, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the inaugural visit has successfully written a new chapter in India-Slovakia relations and has created an environment of cooperation which PM Modi will now take forward in the broader discussions at the G7.
