Lucknow: The excitement of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is at its peak. The Indian women’s cricket team has started its campaign in a very spectacular manner. Team India made a winning start in the tournament by defeating arch-rival Pakistan in its very first match and scored 2 important points. But despite this resounding victory, the Indian team has not been able to reach the first position in the points table of its group. Let us know what is its equation and when is India’s next match.
Know the complete situation of Group-A
This year, a total of 12 teams are vying for the title in the World Cup, which have been divided into two groups. The Indian team captained by Harmanpreet Kaur has been placed in Group-A. Apart from India and Pakistan, this group includes strong teams like Australia, Bangladesh, Netherlands and South Africa.
Till now all the teams have played one match each in Group A. Out of this, Australia, India and Bangladesh have opened their accounts by winning their respective matches, while Netherlands, Pakistan and South Africa are still waiting for their first win.
Mathematics of points table: Australia number-1, India at second place
In Group A, Australia, India and Bangladesh have equal points (2-2). Despite this, the Australian team is better than India in terms of Net Run Rate (NRR), which is why it is at the top in the points table. Due to better net run rate, Indian team is at second place, while Bangladesh has slipped to third place. On the other hand, if we talk about Group B, England, Scotland and West Indies have maintained the lead by winning their respective matches, while New Zealand, Ireland and Sri Lanka are looking for their first win.
When and who will India face next?
After defeating Pakistan, now Team India has its eyes on its next mission. The next match of the Indian women’s team will be played against Netherlands on 17 June (Wednesday). To remain in the race for the semi-finals and reach the top in the points table, India will have to win this match by a big margin.
Match time: This match will start at 7:00 pm Indian time.
After Netherlands, the real test for the Indian team will be against Australia and South Africa. Only the matches against these big teams will make it clear how strong a contender Team India is in the race to lift the World Cup trophy this time.
