Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump on Tuesday met and greeted each other ahead of an outreach session of the G-7 summit held in Evian, France.

The two leaders shook hands and held brief talks ahead of the G-7 session on ‘Building New Partnerships and Strengthening International Solidarity’. Apart from G-7 countries, partner countries, World Bank and African Development Bank are also participating in this session.

Prime Minister Modi and President Trump will hold a bilateral meeting on Wednesday. In this meeting, many important issues to economic development, supply chain, Artificial Intelligence (AI), investment partnership and world security will be discussed.

This will be the first bilateral meeting between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi after the successful ‘Operation Sindoor’ against Pakistan last year.

The White House said that this meeting will take place before the two leaders attend a working lunch that will include G-7 leaders, outreach partners and executives of technology companies.

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron warmly welcomed Prime Minister Modi on his arrival at the G-7 summit. Both the leaders greeted each other with a hug during the meeting. US President Donald Trump and other G-7 leaders were also present on this occasion.

After reaching Evian, Prime Minister Modi said that he was excited to meet world leaders and share views on important global issues.

India has been invited as a partner country for the 52nd G-7 Summit, which is being held from June 15 to 17. In this conference, Prime Minister Modi will discuss with world leaders on important issues to India and the Global South (developing countries).

This is India’s 13th participation in the G-7 Summit and Prime Minister Modi’s 7th consecutive presence in it.

June 16 and 17 of the G-7 summit have been kept for outreach sessions, in which Prime Minister Modi will participate along with leaders of other invited countries. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), these meetings will mainly discuss issues like strengthening international partnerships, increasing cooperation for development, balanced economic development and effectively pursuing Artificial Intelligence.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that India’s continuous participation in the G-7 summit shows that India’s role and contribution in solving global issues like peace, security, development and environment is being given more importance in the world.

India has always put forward the priorities, concerns and development- expectations of developing countries even in international forums like G-20 and ‘Voice of Global South Summit’.
