Despite not being able to perform in the batting with his team the 15-year-old attracted eyeballs for his on field behaviour as well as for the former Sri Lanka skipper Anura Tennekoon, who met him after the match.

Anura Tennekoon Shares Advice For Young Star

"He is a generational talent," Tennekoon told Sportstar.
The former Sri Lankan skipper also told the Indian teenager not to pay attention to outside noise and just concentrate on his game.
Tennekoon said in the conversation
"You focus on your game and cut out the outside noise. Today, unfortunately you (Vaibhav Sooryavanshi) couldn't get going. But that's part of the game you can't get going every day."
Tennekoon added that he is a fan of Sooryavanshi's batting since watching his performance in the Indian Premier League in 2026 and he was surprised to see him hit the sixes and fours.
Tennekoon added:
"I was really impressed by his batting in the IPL. And hitting those sixes and fours the way he does is something unbelievable. I hope he continues in this way."

India A Under Pressure Ahead Of Must Win Match
Sooryavanshi had a tremendous outing in the IPL 2026 season where he scored 776 runs in 16 innings and strike rate of 237.31. The young player was soon selected in India's T20I team as well as for the India A squad.
But it is not the same story in Sri Lanka, as the youngster has not been able to score a half-century till now in three innings, aggregating 79 runs at an average of 26.33. Meanwhile India A has not had the best of runs in the Tri-Series so far after a winning start in the opening match where Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed a century for the team, but the team suffered consecutive defeats from Afghanistan A and Sri Lanka A.
They lost against Afghanistan A after posting a massive 349/9 in their 50 overs and later rain reduced the game for 20 overs and Afghanistan won via DLS. However after that they lost to Sri Lanka A in a Super Over and that made their task difficult. As a result India A will face Afghanistan A in their must-win game on October 12 to book a spot in the final of the Tri-Series.
