Lucknow. A big campaign has been launched in Uttar Pradesh to strengthen the health system and control infectious diseases. After the successful eradication of pulse polio, kala azar and Japanese encephalitis, steps have now been taken towards making the state malaria free. Under this campaign, ‘Track (Identification), Test (Investigation) and Treat (Treat)’ have been made the main strategy, so that early identification of the disease can be ensured and immediate treatment can be ensured.

Malaria eradication campaign will be completed in three phases

Malaria eradication is being implemented in three phases under the National Strategic Plan 2023-27.

In the first phase it will be ensured that:

Patient information received within 1 day

Investigation should be completed within 3 days

Treatment and control begin within 7 days

In this, major responsibility has been given to Asha workers, ANM and community health officers.

Focus will be on mosquitoes in the second phase

Integrated vector management will be implemented in the second phase of the campaign. Under this, identification of mosquito species, monitoring of their breeding sites and effect of pesticides will be investigated. Larva control measures will also be implemented rapidly, so that the chain of infection can be broken.

Malaria cases are continuously decreasing

According to the Health Department, there is a continuous decline in malaria cases in the state. More than 92,000 cases in the year 2019, about 14,500 cases in the year 2025. The testing rate has also increased from 2.51 percent in 2019 to 7.8 percent in 2025, due to which patients are being identified better.

Many districts have become malaria free

Some districts of the state like Saharanpur, Mainpuri, Azamgarh, Lalitpur and Mahoba have been declared malaria free. However, the number of patients is still high in some districts, which include Sitapur (3643 cases), Badaun (1967 cases), Bareilly (1938 cases), Hardoi (1481 cases), Shahjahanpur (1179 cases),

Plan to accomplish the target in the next two years

The aim of the Health Department is to make the state completely malaria free in the coming two years. For this, the World Health Organization and the state’s communicable disease unit are jointly paying special attention to high-risk districts. This campaign of Uttar Pradesh government is being considered an important step towards making the state malaria free.
