In a joint statement, the four European leaders congratulated the US-Iranian governments and all parties involved in facilitating the agreement. He also recognized the role of mediators in carrying forward the diplomatic process.
“We heartily welcome the announcement of the MOU between the US and Iran. We congratulate the US, the Iranian government, and all those involved, including Pakistan, Qatar, and all other mediators, on this diplomatic success,” the European leaders said in a joint statement.
The statement described the deal as a moment of opportunity to return stability to the region and stabilize the global economy. Along with this, the importance of completing detailed negotiations and ensuring that the agreement is implemented without any delay was emphasized.
“It is now vital that detailed negotiations be completed and that this agreement be swiftly and fully implemented. We stand ready to assist in this effort,” the leaders said.
The four countries also stressed the importance of maritime security in the Gulf and called for the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and resumption of navigation without restriction for commercial vessels.
“It is essential to immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz to freedom of navigation unconditionally and without restriction,” the statement said.
The leaders said that they are committed to contribute towards achieving this objective. Under this, a completely defensive and independent mission will be conducted to provide security to commercial shipping and to conduct operations to remove maritime mines.
Reiterating their previous views on Iran’s nuclear program, European leaders said that Iran should never make nuclear weapons. He expressed readiness to work with America, Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to achieve this objective.
European leaders said they were prepared to consider any necessary sanctions relief in response if Tehran took clear and verifiable steps.
The statement further promised to work with the US, Iran and regional partners to reach a definitive diplomatic agreement. The leaders also reiterated their full support for Lebanon’s stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity and the importance of a strong ceasefire.
