New Delhi:- The debate has once again intensified regarding the quality of medicines being distributed to patients in government hospitals. Congress has alleged that questions are being raised regarding the quality of some medicines reaching health institutions, which may affect the safety of patients and the effectiveness of treatment. Party leaders have sought intervention from the Governor in this regard.
Issue of medicines failing quality tests
Congress says that from time to time, information about such medicines has been coming to the fore, which after quality testing were found not to be as per the standard. The party alleges that by the time action is taken in such cases, many patients have already used those medicines. This raises questions about the monitoring and quality control system of the health system.
Complaints kept coming from hospitals
The opposition claims that complaints have come from many government hospitals and health centers regarding the quality of medicines. Doctors and health workers have also said that in some cases the medicines did not yield the expected results. Congress has demanded an independent investigation into these complaints.
Review of storage and distribution system necessary
Party leaders say that not only the procurement of medicines, but also the process of their storage and distribution should be reviewed. If medicines are not stored at appropriate temperatures and as per prescribed standards, their quality may be affected. In such a situation, investigation of the entire supply chain is necessary.
Demand to set up a high level investigation committee
Congress has urged the Governor to form a committee of experts to impartially investigate the entire matter. Also, an independent investigation should be conducted on the quality of medicines being used in medical colleges, district hospitals and community health centers, so that the real situation can be clear.
Appeal to keep the interests of patients paramount
The party says that most of the patients undergoing treatment in government hospitals come from economically weaker sections and are completely dependent on government health services. In such a situation, providing quality medicines is the primary responsibility of the government. Congress has demanded quick and transparent action keeping in mind the interests of the patients.
