The health department has been alerted after vaccine-borne polio virus type-1 (VDPV1) was found in a sample of sewage in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. This virus was found in samples taken from Dundahera Sewage Treatment Plant and Vijay Nagar Pumping Station on June 5, 2026. However, officials have clarified that this is not an emergency condition and till now not a single polio patient has been reported. As a precaution, the health department has started a survey of thousands of houses and small children are being examined.
