New Delhi: Tollywood stars Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna made a heartfelt trip to Thummanpet village in Telangana’s Achampet Mandal on Sunday. The visit was part of a philanthropic mission to distribute educational scholarships to 180 meritorious school students through The Deverakonda Foundation. The initiative, which targets hardworking ninth and 10th-grade children from government schools, aims to alleviate financial burdens during a crucial phase of their academic journey.
The location holds profound personal significance for the family, as Thummanpet is the ancestral village where Vijay’s father was born and raised. The star couple had initially conceptualised the welfare programme in February during a visit to their hometown for housewarming rituals.
Taking to X to reveal the chosen beneficiaries, Vijay shared his excitement about returning to his roots. He wrote, “We are on our way to Thummanpet. The little village where my Father was born. In February, @iamRashmika and I had announced the beginning of a little dream of ours. To reward all the hardworking students of 9th and 10th grade from Achampet Mandal of Telangana. Here is a list of the 180 kids who made their parents proud.”

Addressing the gathered students and their families at the local event, Vijay expressed his desire to expand the educational project on a much larger scale. He stated, “Giving you this small scholarship gift is very small. But I feel it is important for us. I want to be a part of your lives. Slowly, after my village, I want this move to happen across Telangana. This is my dream. I wanted to celebrate the discipline and focus behind it.”
Rashmika also took to the podium to congratulate the children, generating immense cheers from the crowd as she introduced herself using her married name following their intimate Udaipur wedding on February 26.
“I will speak less today, but today we are starting something good through The Deverakonda Foundation. We decided that we would begin it from Achampet and Thummanpet, which is our father-in-law’s village. Today, I am standing in front of you and talking to you as Rashmika Mandanna Deverakonda. I am very excited,” she noted.

On the professional front, the real-life couple will soon be seen sharing screen space yet again in the Rahul Sankrityan directorial Ranabaali. Slated for a theatrical release on September 11, the film marks their third cinematic collaboration following box office hits Geetha Govindam (2018) and Dear Comrade (2019), and stands as their first project together since tying the knot.
