Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday dismissed rumors regarding the discontinuation of the Congress government’s guarantee schemes, asserting that welfare programs such as Gruha Lakshmi and Gruha Jyothi will continue without interruption.
He said the public should not be misled by what he described as false propaganda being spread by opposition parties over the future of the schemes.

The Chief Minister also said that instances have come to light where fake records were created using the names of deceased persons to avail scheme benefits.
He said a review process has been initiated to verify beneficiaries’ names, addresses, and bank account details to ensure that benefits reach only eligible recipients. He clarified that the exercise is not aimed at stopping the schemes, but at improving transparency and proper delivery.
Political Row Over Gruha Lakshmi Scheme
Earlier, Congress leader Ramesh Babu defended the Karnataka government’s implementation of the Gruha Lakshmi scheme and criticized BJP leader R. Ashok, accusing him of misleading the public and spreading confusion among beneficiaries.
He said over 1.2 crore women in Karnataka continue to receive benefits under the scheme and rejected allegations of large-scale exclusions.
His remarks came after R. Ashok alleged that more than 1.1 lakh women had been removed from the beneficiary list despite pre-election promises. He also accused the Congress government of failing to deliver on its guarantees.
The exchange has intensified the political debate over the implementation and reach of Karnataka’s flagship welfare schemes.
