This incident happened after the match held in Dharamshala, in which India defeated Afghanistan by 7 wickets. While a journalist was asking questions, Nitish's phone started ringing. As soon as he saw 'Amma's' name on the screen, instead of disconnecting the call, he picked up the phone and said, "Amma, I will call back in five minutes." Soon after, he also apologized to the journalists for the interruption. Everyone sitting in the press room laughed at this style of Nitish.

Nitish got a place in the Indian team only after his brilliant performance for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL. He did not get a chance to bat in this match, but he played an important role with the ball. Nitish took 2 wickets for 31 runs in 4 overs, which included the valuable wickets of century-scorer Rahmanullah Gurbaz and experienced Mohammad Nabi.

Young Gurnoor Brar (3/27) and Harsh Dubey (3/47), playing their first match for India, performed brilliantly by taking three wickets each. Arshdeep Singh and Nitish Reddy also got two wickets each.
