India defeated Afghanistan by 7 wickets in the first ODI and took a 1-0 lead in the series. Shubman Gill (84*) was the man of the match. All-rounder Nitish Reddy won everyone's heart by picking up his mother's call at the press conference. He also took 2 wickets in the match.
Hospice: Young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy won the hearts of cricket fans in the press conference held after the first ODI match against Afghanistan. It so happened that while he was answering the questions of journalists, his mother called. Nitish stopped the press conference for some time and picked up the phone.

This incident happened after the match held in Dharamshala, in which India defeated Afghanistan by 7 wickets. While a journalist was asking questions, Nitish's phone started ringing. As soon as he saw 'Amma's' name on the screen, instead of disconnecting the call, he picked up the phone and said, "Amma, I will call back in five minutes." Soon after, he also apologized to the journalists for the interruption. Everyone sitting in the press room laughed at this style of Nitish.
Nitish got a place in the Indian team only after his brilliant performance for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL. He did not get a chance to bat in this match, but he played an important role with the ball. Nitish took 2 wickets for 31 runs in 4 overs, which included the valuable wickets of century-scorer Rahmanullah Gurbaz and experienced Mohammad Nabi.

Due to rain the match was reduced to 25 overs. India won the toss and asked Afghanistan to bat first. On the basis of Rahmanullah Gurbaz's century (121), Afghanistan team was all out after scoring 194 runs in 24.5 overs. Young Gurnoor Brar (3/27) and Harsh Dubey (3/47), playing their first match for India, performed brilliantly by taking three wickets each. Arshdeep Singh and Nitish Reddy also got two wickets each.
In reply, the Indian team, who came to bat, lost the wicket of Rohit Sharma (16) early, but the stormy batting of captain Shubman Gill (84*) made India's victory easy. Ishan Kishan (34) and KL Rahul (39*) also played well. India achieved the target by losing 3 wickets in 22.5 overs. With this victory, India has taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Gill was adjudged 'Man of the Match'.
