Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy came into the limelight after a heartwarming incident following India's triumph over Afghanistan in the 1st ODI of the Afghanistan tour of India 2026.
Post his outstanding performance in Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, Nitish was addressing the media at the post-match press conference when an unexpected phone call interrupted proceedings. The call was from his mother and the young Indian cricketer immediately stopped the press conference to answer it.
The Indian international humbly asked the reporters to excuse him for a moment before taking the call, creating a sweet and adorable moment that instantly resonated with the fans. The touching gesture depicted the immense connection that the young Indian international shares with his family even after a stupendous outing in the international arena.

Nitish Reddy Shines As India Continue Dominance Over Afghanistan
On the pitch, India once again ended up dominating Afghanistan in the ODI arena after securing another convincing victory. The Indian chase got off to a brilliant start with captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill stitching together a 46-run opening stand. While a mix-up did see the end of Rohit's innings, Gill carried on aggressively against the Afghan bowlers.
Ishan Kishan also gave them the necessary impetus with a scintillating 22-ball 34 and K.L. Rahul sealed the game with a powerful 19-ball 39. Afghanistan bowlers had very few moments to build pressure and a slightly expensive Rashid Khan picked up only one wicket.
Nitish Kumar Reddy also played a significant role with the ball after a brilliant spell of 2 for 31 and the Afghans, despite getting chances, did not convert them, particularly in the death overs after the departure of the centurion Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
The visitors just failed to keep up with the scoring and lost out, with India maintaining its upper hand against Afghanistan in ODI cricket.
However, the heartwarming moment between Nitish and his mother in the post-match press conference has been the highlight of the game.
