The Andoni Iraola era at Liverpool is moving into full swing as the club embarks on a major revamp of its first-team coaching setup. Following the appointment of the former Bournemouth manager, the Reds have confirmed the departure of three important members from Arne Slot’s backroom staff.

Liverpool initiate transition in coaching staff

Liverpool have officially announced that Sipke Hulshoff, Ruben Peeters, and Giovanni van Bronckhorst have left the coaching department after a successful spell under Arne Slot. These exits follow Slot’s own departure last month, marking the end of a coaching structure that guided the club back to the Premier League title. The reshuffle signals the beginning of a broader restructuring process at Anfield as the club prepares for a new leadership team under Iraola.

Liverpool express gratitude to outgoing coaches

Hulshoff and Peeters joined Liverpool alongside Slot in the summer of 2024, contributing significantly during a memorable debut campaign that culminated in the Reds capturing their 20th English league title. Van Bronckhorst, who also arrived last summer as an assistant coach, added valuable managerial expertise to the technical team. Liverpool acknowledged the trio’s contributions in an official statement confirming their departures.

“The three will now leave their posts following the announcement of Slot’s departure as head coach last month. Everybody at LFC thanks Sipke, Ruben and Gio for all their efforts and contributions to the club and wishes them the best for the future,” the club stated.

Iraola sets sights on building his own backroom team

The departure of the coaches leaves several openings within Liverpool’s staff and is expected to accelerate Iraola’s efforts to assemble his trusted team. According to the Liverpool Echo, the Spanish tactician is likely to bring in several of his former Bournemouth colleagues, including assistant coach Tommy Elphick, set-piece coach Shaun Cooper, analyst Tom Webber, and fitness coach Pablo de la Torre. Reuniting with familiar faces at Anfield could help Iraola implement his tactical approach more efficiently as he begins his tenure.

Pre-season to mark the first challenge for the new setup

Iraola will officially take charge of the squad during the pre-season next month after signing a two-year deal. The pre-season phase will be vital as he assesses his players and introduces his coaching philosophy ahead of the upcoming campaign. Liverpool’s preparations include a tour of the United States, where they will face Sunderland, Leeds, and Wrexham. The Reds will then return to Anfield to host friendlies against Monaco and Como, providing early opportunities for the new coaching staff to make their mark.
