Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has reiterated his commitment to securing 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative bodies, saying that his government and party would continue to work towards increasing women’s representation in politics.
Addressing a gathering at Daminedu village in Chandragiri constituency of Tirupati district , Naidu said women must be given greater opportunities in governance and decision-making.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief said his party would actively support the implementation of the proposed 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and state legislatures. He also stressed the need for women’s empowerment through political participation and leadership roles.
Naidu had earlier appealed to political parties and lawmakers to back measures aimed at enhancing women’s representation in legislative bodies, describing it as an important step towards gender equality and democratic inclusion.
Naidu’s renewed pledge comes amid ongoing national discussions on the implementation of women’s reservation in elected legislatures, a long-standing demand aimed at improving gender representation in the country’s political system.
Meanwhile, He recalled the situation when the coalition government assumed office two years ago. He claimed that the state was facing a severe crisis across sectors. He said the previous government had left Andhra Pradesh burdened with debts of nearly Rs 10 lakh crore, weakened institutions, disrupted Centrally-sponsored schemes, abandoned irrigation projects, driven away investors and undermined opportunities for youth.
He also highlighted various welfare and initiatives undertaken by the TDP-Jana Sena-BJP coalition government over the past two years with the support of deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan.
