The current Assembly of Punjab was constituted in March 2022 and the five-year tenure of this Assembly will end in March 2027. According to this, there is a possibility of elections being held in Punjab in January or February 2026. Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has made a big claim that Punjab Assembly elections can be held ahead of schedule in November 2026 this year. After his claim, political turmoil has intensified in Punjab.

 

Kejriwal addressed a road show in Punjab’s Bathinda along with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia and party state president Aman Arora and other leaders. Meanwhile, he said, ‘I have been told that the elections will be held in November 2026 instead of February 2027. In such a situation, now only four months are left. We should start working from now on and make Bhagwant Mann the Chief Minister again.

After this claim of Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal, political turmoil has intensified in Punjab. Congress party also raised questions on this claim of Arvind Kejriwal. In a debate organized on a TV channel, the Congress Party spokesperson questioned the Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson, ‘Arvind Kejriwal has said that he has been told. Our question is that he should also tell who told him. The Congress party raised questions whether Arvind Kejriwal and BJP are in collusion with each other.

What did BJP say?

Punjab BJP leaders had reached Delhi yesterday to meet Amit Shah and talk about election strategy. After this meeting, former Finance Minister and senior Punjab BJP leader Manpreet Badal reacted to Arvind Kejriwal’s claim. He said, ‘It is election time, neither Kejriwal saheb knows, nor do we. This has to be decided by the Election Commission and the elections to be held are not just for Punjab. Along with Punjab, there are also those from UP, there are also from Uttarakhand, there are also from Goa, there are also from Manipur. If all the states are together, then how can this happen?

 

Political parties busy preparing

Only the Election Commission will answer whether there will be early elections in Punjab or not. However, as per rules and tradition, there is a strong possibility of assembly elections in Punjab being held early next year. Meanwhile, all the political parties have started preparations. The Congress party is preparing for a visit to the state. Aam Aadmi Party leaders have entered the fray. BJP leaders are also making strategies and making changes in the organization.
