Harry Kane has dismissed concerns about the high temperatures expected at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, expressing confidence that England's preparation will ensure the weather does not become a significant issue during the tournament.​
The England captain continued his impressive scoring form by netting the only goal in his side’s 1-0 friendly victory over New Zealand on Saturday. Kane's first-half header secured the win in conditions that reached 33°C, providing another opportunity for England to adapt to the climate they are expected to face during the World Cup.​
England have been training in Florida since arriving earlier in the week as they prepare for their opening Group match against Croatia on June 17 in Dallas. While the weather has been a major topic of discussion ahead of the tournament, Kane believes the challenge has been overstated.​
He said the squad had adjusted well to the conditions during training and that the heat had not felt as severe as some had suggested. According to Kane, after the first few days, most of the players became comfortable with the environment and he does not expect the weather to play a decisive role once the competition begins.​
Drawing on his experience of playing in similar temperatures during last year's Club World Cup in the United States, Kane emphasized the importance of preparation. He stated that both the players and coaching staff have followed the necessary steps to be ready for the tournament and that the additional training time before the opening match will further help the squad adapt.​
Kane’s goal against New Zealand was his 67th across club and international football this season, highlighting the form he carries into another World Cup campaign under head coach Thomas Tuchel.​
Although Tuchel was not entirely satisfied with aspects of England’s first-half performance, the match provided valuable preparation in terms of fitness and adapting to local playing conditions. Kane acknowledged that the pitch was challenging but viewed the fixture as a productive part of the team's build-up to the tournament.​
The Bayern Munich striker also spoke about his pride in representing England and captaining the national team. He described international football as the most rewarding part of his career and said leading England into another World Cup remains a special responsibility.​
England enter the tournament after reaching the semi-finals in 2018 and the quarter-finals in 2022, carrying high expectations once again. Kane said he is eager for the competition to begin and believes he is feeling as good as ever heading into the event.​
The team will play a final warm-up match against Costa Rica in Orlando before opening their World Cup campaign against Croatia, the same opponent that eliminated England in the 2018 semi-finals. As England pursue World Cup success, Kane is expected to remain at the center of their ambitions.
