Parama Ekadashi Puja Rituals: In the Hindu calendar, *Adhikamas* (an extra lunar month) holds special spiritual significance, and the Ekadashi falling within this holy month is considered even more auspicious. The Ekadashi of the *Krishna Paksha* (waning phase of the moon) during *Adhikamas* is known as Parama Ekadashi. In the year 2026, this sacred fast will be observed on June 11th. Notably, Parama Ekadashi occurs only once every three years, making its religious importance immense. It is believed that observing this fast with devotion and adherence to the rules brings happiness, prosperity, and positive energy into one's life. Let us learn about the complete worship rituals and essential guidelines.
**Ekadashi Fasting and Worship Rituals**
On this day, wake up during *Brahma Muhurta* (the auspicious pre-dawn period), bathe, and wear clean clothes; wearing yellow attire is considered particularly auspicious. Afterward, sit at the place of worship with a calm mind, take some water in your hand, and make a solemn vow (*Sankalp*) to observe the fast.
Next, spread a yellow cloth on a wooden platform (*chowki*) and place an idol or picture of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Bathe the deity with water mixed with *Gangajal* (holy water from the Ganges) and apply a *tilak* (mark) using yellow sandalwood paste.
Then, offer yellow flowers, fruits, and *Tulsi* (holy basil) leaves to the Lord. Keep in mind that plucking *Tulsi* leaves on the day of Ekadashi is prohibited; therefore, pluck and keep them ready a day in advance.
**Chant this mantra during the worship:**
“Ekadashyam niraharah sthitvahamapare’hani, Bhokshyami Pundarikaksha sharanam me bhavachyuta.”
After this, light incense and a lamp (*diya*), and recite the *Vishnu Sahasranama* or chant the mantra ‘Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya’. Finally, perform the *Aarti* of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Observe a fast throughout the day and consume only *Phalahar* (fruit-based diet) once. Sleeping during the day is considered forbidden on this day. Staying awake at night (*Jagran*) while singing devotional songs (*Bhajan-Kirtan*), chanting mantras, and reciting the *Vishnu Chalisa* is considered extremely auspicious.
**Breaking the Fast on Dwadashi**
On the following day, *Dwadashi Tithi*, after bathing in the morning, perform *Abhishek* (ceremonial bathing) of Lord Vishnu with milk. After this, offer *Arghya* (ritual water offering) to the Sun God and provide a meal to Brahmins or the needy. Offer donations and *Dakshina* (alms) according to your means. Finally, partake in a meal yourself to break the fast.
Essential Rules for the Ekadashi Fast
The Ekadashi fast is not limited to a single day; the associated rules begin on the *Dashami* Tithi (the tenth day of the lunar fortnight). On the night of *Dashami*, one should consume a light and *Sattvic* (pure and simple) meal. Cooking or consuming rice in the household on the day of Ekadashi is considered prohibited. Not only the person observing the fast but also other family members should adhere to this rule.
