Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru as they aim to reinforce their midfield options this summer, according to Sky Sports.
Manager Michael Carrick is on the lookout for a replacement for Casemiro at Old Trafford, and Dele-Bashiru has emerged as one of the names being evaluated by the Red Devils.
The 25-year-old Nigerian international, who currently has two years remaining on his contract with the Italian club, is understood to be open to a switch to the Premier League.
Despite spending 11 years with Manchester City’s youth setup, Dele-Bashiru never made a senior appearance in the English top-flight.
A potential move to Manchester United could be an attractive proposition for him, particularly given that he once impressed Pep Guardiola during training sessions at City.
Guardiola was reportedly impressed by Dele-Bashiru’s energy and positive attitude when he first joined senior team training in March 2019.
After leaving Manchester City, the England-born midfielder joined Sheffield Wednesday in 2020 before making a move to the Turkish Super Lig side Hatayspor for the 2023-24 season.
His standout performances in Turkey earned him a transfer to Lazio the following year, where his technical ability and dynamism have caught the attention of Manchester United scouts.
Standing at 5ft 9in, Dele-Bashiru is known for his box-to-box style, combining defensive solidity with creative flair — qualities that could prove valuable for Carrick’s side.
However, reports indicate that Dele-Bashiru is not among United’s top midfield priorities at this stage, with a move likely only if other preferred targets cannot be secured.
West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes, Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba, and Bournemouth’s Alex Scott are also on United’s radar as potential signings.
Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson had previously been viewed as a leading target, though Manchester City are now considered favourites to sign the England international.
Meanwhile, Atalanta midfielder Ederson is reportedly close to finalising a move to Old Trafford, but the club still intends to bring in another midfielder — and it remains to be seen whether that player will be Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
