Real Madrid show interest in Arsenal youngster as Gunners weigh summer sales to balance finances

Arsenal may soon have to part ways with one of their most promising young stars, as Real Madrid are reportedly monitoring the situation closely.

The North London club could lose one of their standout academy graduates in the upcoming summer window, with the Spanish giants keeping a close eye on developments.

The Gunners are currently concentrated on this season’s campaign, holding a nine-point lead at the top of the Premier League table, which could deliver their first league title since 2004.

Their nearest rivals, Manchester City, defeated them in the Carabao Cup final and still have a game in hand, with the two sides set to meet later this month in a crucial fixture.

However, some within the Emirates Stadium hierarchy are already taking a long-term view, assessing both potential departures and new signings for the summer.

Under the existing financial regulations, profits from the sale of academy players are particularly valuable, as these players were developed in-house and therefore generate ‘pure profit’ when sold.

In this context, Real Madrid are said to be tracking young Arsenal left-back Myles Lewis-Skelly, as reported by Fichajes.

The 19-year-old played a notable role under Mikel Arteta last season but has found first-team opportunities limited this year due to competition from Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie.

Both of those defenders are still relatively young, leaving Lewis-Skelly facing a challenging path to consistent senior minutes in the current setup.

According to the report, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is keeping tabs on the situation, viewing the youngster as a potential successor to Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia.

BBC Sport has also reported that Arsenal are open to offers for Lewis-Skelly, along with fellow academy product Ethan Nwaneri, as part of efforts to generate funds.

In the view of FourFourTwo, even if Arsenal supporters may not welcome the idea, this could be the right time for Lewis-Skelly to seek a new challenge. The player retains considerable market value and interest from elite clubs, though that could diminish if he remains on the fringes of the first team for much longer.

For both Arsenal and Lewis-Skelly, a transfer this summer could be mutually beneficial — the club could maximize their financial return, while the player would gain more regular playing time.

According to Transfermarkt, Lewis-Skelly currently carries a market valuation of €35 million.
