Karnataka BJP state president BY Vijayendra on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on state Home Minister Priyank Kharge over his comments against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He accused Kharge of diverting attention from issues to governance.

Vijayendra said that governments keep coming and going. Many previous governments tried to ban the association, but were ultimately rejected by the public, even though the organization has been operating for almost a century.

He said the union works within the ambit of the Constitution of India and Kharge has taken an oath to abide by the Constitution as a minister. Vijayendra also mentioned the completion of 100 years of the Sangh and said that its continuous work shows the acceptance of the public.

The BJP leader alleged that the RSS’s criticism was being used to grab headlines instead of focusing on the governance’s priorities. He further claimed that Priyank Kharge’s Gulbarga constituency is performing poorly on development parameters, which he attributed to poor governance and ineffective leadership over the years.

BY Vijayendra said that attacking the Sangh may make headlines, but it does not bring any improvement in the lives of the people who elected you.

He said that the people of Karnataka and Gulbarga deserve better governance, meaningful development, accountability and leadership instead of diverting attention from core issues.

Responding to alleged derogatory comments against him on social media, Home Minister Priyank Kharge had said that it has not even been 48 hours since I took over as the Home Minister, and yet your fear, your worry and your distress are clearly visible.

You are already using the Sangh to abuse me and threaten to kill me. Go ahead and do whatever you want. Most importantly, please convey my message to your ‘group of people’ and also ask them to keep the documents ready for the registration of your political senior organization.

He also said that the association should be accountable and raised questions on the organisation’s registration status, tax exemption and financial transparency.

Angered by Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge’s statement against Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), BJP MLC CT Ravi advised him not to behave like a goon and maintain the dignity of the post of Home Minister.

He also warned that if power is misused, incidents like West Bengal could be repeated in Karnataka.
