FC Bayern Munich are reportedly nearing another impressive signing as transfer discussions intensify. A deal for Ismael Saibari is expected to be confirmed soon, while an agreement has already been reached with Nathaniel Brown. In addition, the club appears to be leading the race for a third target.
According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter Milan’s centre-back Yann Bisseck is now moving closer to a transfer to the German champions. The report claims that the 25-year-old defender is flattered by Bayern's attention and is "particularly keen on the idea of becoming a regular starter in the Bundesliga for the first time, and playing for a team that also competes in the Champions League."
However, a transfer to Munich might not be straightforward. The defensive pairing of Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah has been formidable, with Min-Jae Kim previously struggling to secure consistent playing time, which relegated him to the bench for much of the season.
Interestingly, Kim could be the deciding factor in whether Bisseck joins Bayern. Should the South Korean depart this summer, it would open up both financial space and a squad slot for another centre-back. Several reports suggest that Bayern are open to letting Kim and Hiroki Ito leave if the right offers come in. Bayern are reportedly asking for at least €30 million for Kim, while Ito could be available for around €20 million. Kim is said to have already given his word to Juventus regarding a possible move.
The situation is similarly competitive at right-back, a position where Bisseck might also be considered for rotation. Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanisic have both impressed this season, alternating between the left and right sides of the defence. Laimer, in particular, has excelled at right-back, arguably delivering his best season in a Bayern shirt. The Austrian’s contract runs until 2027, and after some early disagreements, extension talks are now believed to be progressing positively.
There is also speculation about whether Bisseck could finally cement his place in the German national team if he makes the move to Bayern. His determination to become a first-choice defender in Munich is notable, especially given his recent success at Inter Milan. Under Simone Inzaghi’s replacement, Cristian Chivu, the Cologne-born player started the season largely as a substitute, spending seven of the first eight Serie A matches on the bench, though he did get regular Champions League appearances.
By late October, Bisseck managed to break into Inter’s preferred defensive trio alongside Manuel Akanji and Alessandro Bastoni. Their partnership played a key role in helping the Nerazzurri clinch both the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia. Despite these achievements, Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann left him out of the World Cup squad, opting instead for Newcastle United’s Malick Thiaw for the final defensive spot.
Having missed the World Cup, a move back to Germany could appeal to Bisseck, offering him the opportunity to strengthen his standing with the national team. Currently, he has earned one senior international cap.
Sources suggest that a long-time Bayern associate could play a significant role in this potential transfer. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter manager Chivu is reluctant to lose Bisseck, especially since the defender’s importance is expected to increase following the upcoming exits of Stefan de Vrij, Francesco Acerbi, and Matteo Darmian. Despite valuing Bisseck highly, Inter are also looking to raise funds to reinforce their defence.
The Italian side has already shortlisted two potential replacements: Tarik Muharemovic of Sassuolo, a Juventus academy product with high potential, and Udinese’s Oumar Solet, who has long been on Inter’s radar. Both are valued at around €50 million, and Inter would reportedly consider offers beginning at €40 million for Bisseck should he express a desire to leave. His recent switch to agent Giovanni Branchini hints that such intentions may have already been communicated to the club’s hierarchy.
Branchini is a familiar figure at Bayern, having facilitated several major transfers for the German giants. Among his most notable successes was Pep Guardiola’s appointment as Bayern manager in 2013, when he served as an intermediary for Guardiola’s camp. Branchini also played a role in Leroy Sané’s 2020 transfer from Manchester City and is regarded within Munich’s management as a trusted associate of Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Nevertheless, insiders indicate that formal negotiations may not begin imminently, similar to Bayern’s previous exploratory talks for Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven and Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt. Bisseck himself recently commented that he intends to "take a break after the season" before making any decision about his future.
