Chelsea are reportedly gearing up for a blockbuster bid from Real Madrid for their midfielder Enzo Fernandez during the upcoming summer transfer window.
As per reports from the Daily Mail, the Spanish giants have shown a ‘serious interest’ in signing the Argentine international, who has been valued at around £120 million by the London club.
In recent months, Fernandez has dropped several indications that he could be open to leaving Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea are unlikely to stand in his way if the right offer comes in.
However, the club has made it clear that any potential suitor will need to meet their full valuation for them to approve a transfer this summer.
After missing out on qualification for the Champions League, Chelsea are expected to see a few departures, and Fernandez could well be the first high-profile exit from the squad.
Despite a tough season where the Blues managed only a 10th-place finish in the Premier League, Fernandez’s individual performances stood out, contributing 15 goals and seven assists in 54 appearances across all competitions.
Having completed three seasons in Chelsea colours, the ‘brilliant’ midfielder now appears ready for a new challenge elsewhere.
Fernandez’s name has long been associated with Real Madrid, mainly because the Spanish club is one of the few capable of meeting Chelsea’s steep asking price.
The World Cup-winning midfielder has previously expressed his admiration for Real Madrid and his dream of living in Madrid someday, comments that have only intensified rumours of a possible move.
Given Fernandez’s openness to a new challenge, negotiations could progress smoothly if Madrid decide to formalise their interest with a concrete offer.
That said, Chelsea remain in a strong position to negotiate, as Fernandez still has six years remaining on his current long-term contract with the club.
The Blues are reluctant to part ways with the midfielder and had even been considering a contract extension with an improved salary at the end of the season.
This developing situation could turn into one of the most captivating transfer stories of the summer, particularly if Real Madrid choose to meet Chelsea’s valuation and push forward with an official bid.
