Manchester United Women forward Fridolina Rolfo has again spoken candidly about her current situation with the Swedish national team.
The 32-year-old Swedish international joined Manchester United Women in August last year after departing FC Barcelona on a free transfer.
Rolfo, who has previously represented VfL Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich in Germany, enjoyed a strong debut season with the Red Devils, netting seven goals in 30 appearances.
Having earned 108 caps for Sweden and scored 33 goals for her country, Rolfo remains one of the most experienced players in the national setup.
However, she has recently struggled to secure regular playing time under head coach Tony Gustavsson. In April, she voiced her dissatisfaction over her limited opportunities with the national side.
Following Sweden’s 2-1 defeat to Denmark in the World Cup qualifiers, Rolfo reiterated her disappointment. The loss means Sweden will now have to compete in a play-off to book their place in next summer’s tournament in Brazil.
Speaking to SVT Sport after the match, Rolfo questioned Gustavsson’s decision to use her for only the final seven minutes of the game.
“Playing time isn’t something that I can control. That’s Tony’s (Gustavsson’s) decision,” she said. “All I can do is prepare myself as best as possible to be ready, whether that means starting the match or finishing it.”
When asked if she was physically fit, she responded, “Yes, I’m fine. I’m not here to criticise anyone – that’s a question for Tony. I focus on what I can influence, and that’s what matters most – to walk with my head held high.”
Rolfo also confirmed that she has held discussions with her manager. When asked whether she accepted his explanations, she replied, “I would say yes and no. Ultimately, it’s his decision.”
Sweden are set to face Italy later today in their final group fixture, and Rolfo will be eager to see more time on the pitch in that encounter.
