At WWDC 2026, Apple announced the new "Ask to Browse" feature for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users; this child safety tool will be available with iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27. The company designed this feature specifically to give parents greater control over the websites their children access. Apple introduced this feature alongside several other parental control updates, including time allowances, communication approvals, and a redesigned Screen Time dashboard.
What is Ask to Browse?
"Ask to Browse" is a new parental control tool designed for children's online safety. With this feature, children must obtain parental permission before accessing websites that have not been pre-approved by a parent. It functions similarly to Apple's existing "Ask to Buy" system, which requires parental approval before a child can download an app or make an in-app purchase. When "Ask to Browse" is enabled, if a child attempts to visit a new website via Safari, they must send a request to their parent or guardian; the parent can then choose whether or not to grant access.
Parents must first set up a child account for their child. Once the account is active, age-appropriate protections are automatically applied to the device. With "Ask to Browse" enabled, children can access websites approved by their parents, but they will be prompted to seek permission for any new site. This new feature helps parents monitor their children's online activity.
Availability
Apple states that "Ask to Browse" and other major child safety features will be released later this year via the iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 updates. This means that as soon as a new update arrives for your device, you will get this new feature as well.
