LPG Rate Today: It costs the government and oil companies ₹1,600 to deliver a domestic cylinder to your home. Despite this, consumers still pay a lower price.

LPG Price Today (June 9): The economic burden of supplying domestic cooking gas has risen sharply recently. The delivery cost of a standard 14.2 kg LPG cylinder now exceeds ₹1,600.

Despite a massive surge in international fuel prices, customers continue to pay significantly lower rates. This results in a loss (under-recovery) of approximately ₹700 per cylinder, a cost borne by the government and public sector oil marketing companies.

This gap between market-linked costs and retail prices has widened amidst persistent volatility in the global energy market. This is driven by supply disruptions at the 'Strait of Hormuz,' a critical route for energy shipments from the Middle East.

How much have prices risen in the international market?

According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, international LPG prices have surged over the past few months, significantly increasing India's import bill.

In February, the Saudi Aramco Contract Price (CP) for a 50:50 propane-butane blend stood at US$ 542.50 per tonne. Due to export disruptions at the Strait of Hormuz, this benchmark rose to US$ 775 per tonne in April and climbed further to US$ 790 per tonne in June. The Ministry noted that prices for both key components of LPG saw substantial increases during this period. Lowest LPG Prices in India

The Ministry stated that losses incurred on the sale of domestic LPG have risen sharply over the past year due to a continuous increase in global prices. The total under-recovery (the gap between cost and selling price) on domestic LPG reached ₹60,000 crore by the end of the 2025-26 fiscal year, compared to ₹41,338 crore in the previous fiscal year. The Union Cabinet has approved compensation of ₹30,000 crore to assist oil marketing companies.

Despite a recent hike of ₹29 in the cylinder price, domestic LPG prices remain significantly lower than the actual procurement and supply costs. Effective Sunday, the price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi has been revised to ₹942. The Ministry noted that this price is substantially lower than the market-linked cost.
