Massimiliano Allegri is edging closer to becoming Napoli’s new head coach, but the official confirmation continues to be postponed due to one final issue — reaching a settlement with Milan regarding his existing contractual obligations.

Aurelio De Laurentiis had pinpointed Allegri as his preferred successor to Antonio Conte some time ago, and a long-term agreement between the coach and the Naples-based club has already been reached in principle.

However, as reported by MilanNews24, Allegri remains technically bound by his contract with Milan after being dismissed at the end of the season and is still drawing his salary from the Rossoneri.

Before he can formally sign for Napoli, Allegri must agree to a mutual termination with his current employers — a process expected to involve a financial settlement.

Discussions between Napoli and Milan to find a mutually acceptable resolution have been ongoing in recent weeks. Despite the measured tone of public comments from Allegri’s agent Giovanni Branchini, there is growing optimism that an agreement is imminent.

Sources close to the negotiations believe that Allegri’s move to Napoli is now virtually certain, with only the final administrative details left to complete.

Once the contractual situation with Milan is officially settled, Allegri will be free to sign his new deal and take charge of what is expected to be one of the most anticipated managerial appointments in Serie A ahead of the upcoming season.
