A couple in Hong Kong drew public anger for allegedly using a café cup to dispose of their dog’s leftover drinking water while dining at a shopping mall café.
In a social media post on June 1, an online user claimed the couple brought a dog into the café seating area and gave it water from a collapsible bowl, The Standard reported.

The poster alleged that after the dog finished drinking, the couple poured the leftover water into a cup provided by the café.
Photos shared online showed the couple seated inside the café with a pet stroller beside their table. The dog appeared to be inside the stroller, while a water bottle and food items were visible on the table.
The poster said the shopping mall allows pets in designated areas but does not permit them inside restaurant dining spaces, suggesting the couple may have violated the venue’s rules.
The incident prompted criticism on social media, with many users describing the alleged behavior as unhygienic. Several commenters cited guidelines from Hong Kong’s Food and Environmental Hygiene Department stating that reusable tableware intended for customers should not be used by animals.
The incident also drew criticism from pet owners, who said they bring separate bowls, bottles or feeding containers for their pets when dining out. Others said such behavior could reinforce negative perceptions of pet owners and lead to stricter restrictions affecting responsible dog owners.
