Gary Neville has acknowledged that he might not always achieve the right balance when providing commentary on his former club, Manchester United.

During his illustrious one-club career at Old Trafford, Neville made 602 appearances for Manchester United, capturing eight Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies among his many accolades.

After transitioning into punditry, Neville has occasionally faced criticism for his opinions on United while working with Sky Sports.

In a conversation with his former teammate Rio Ferdinand on Ferdinand’s podcast, Neville was asked how he reacts to suggestions that he lacks enthusiasm or is overly harsh when discussing the Red Devils.

“Do I want City to win the league? Absolutely not, I don’t want City anywhere near the league title. I’ll say it right here — I never want Liverpool or City to win a football match,” Neville stated.

He added, “But you know what? To be professional and deliver my best, sometimes I might not get the balance right with United. United games are the toughest ones for me to cover.”

“People might think I’m harsher on United when they perform poorly. Maybe the balance is something I haven’t quite mastered yet,” Neville admitted.
