The Maharashtra government has taken a significant decision regarding students from the Maratha community. Maratha students will now receive educational benefits and concessions that were previously available only to students from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. The government has issued an official order directing all departments to take the necessary steps to implement this. The initiative aims to provide better education and skill development opportunities to the youth of the Maratha community. The government has also assured that adequate funds will be allocated in future budgets to ensure the effective implementation of these schemes.

According to the issued order, Maratha students will now benefit from the post-Class 10 scholarship scheme currently available to OBC students in the state. Additionally, various scholarship schemes operating at the primary, secondary, and higher secondary levels will be extended to Maratha students. This measure will assist financially disadvantaged students in continuing their education.

**Focus on Skill Development and Training**

The government has expanded the scope of schemes beyond education to include employment and skill development. The motor vehicle driver and conductor training scheme, previously available to the OBC category, will now also apply to Maratha youth. This scheme will be administered through the government's 'Sarathi' portal, thereby providing the youth with better employment opportunities.

**Decision Follows Agitation**

This decision comes amidst ongoing agitation regarding the Maratha reservation. Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange recently ended his hunger strike following discussions with state government representatives. The government had presented a 12-point proposal to him. It is believed that this significant decision, which will directly benefit students from the Maratha community, is a result of that process.
