FC Bayern Munich’s first major signing of the summer could be confirmed within the coming days, as the club inches closer to finalising a move for Moroccan international Ismael Saibari.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the German champions are now in advanced negotiations with PSV Eindhoven and only the final details remain to be settled. The deal is reportedly at the brink of completion.

The adaptable attacking midfielder is expected to undergo his medical examination in the United States next week. During his stay in the US, Saibari will also represent Morocco in their opening group stage match against Brazil at New York’s MetLife Stadium early on Sunday morning. The group also includes Scotland and Haiti.

Sources suggest that a minor difference still exists between PSV and Bayern regarding the transfer structure, while the Munich club has already agreed on all personal terms with Saibari.

The transfer fee for the 25-year-old is said to be between €50 million and €60 million, with the player likely to sign a contract that will keep him in Munich until 2031. As reported by Eindhovens Dagblad, another meeting between the two clubs is planned for Monday, with the deal expected to be finalised soon after.

If completed, the move would represent a record sale for PSV Eindhoven, surpassing the previous record held by Hirving Lozano, who transferred to SSC Napoli for €50 million in the 2019/20 season.

Vincent Kompany’s role in bringing Saibari to Bayern

Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany is understood to be the key figure behind the club’s pursuit of Saibari. A personal conversation between the Belgian manager and the Moroccan midfielder reportedly convinced the player to choose a move to Munich.

The connection between the two dates back to late January, when Bayern faced PSV in the Champions League group stage. During that match, a warm exchange between Kompany and Saibari drew attention. Bayern won the match 2-1, with Saibari scoring a remarkable equaliser before the Bavarians clinched victory.

When asked whether the discussion was already about Bayern’s interest, Saibari told Ziggo Sport, “No, no. He was congratulating me on my performance—actually, on our team’s performance. He told us to keep playing this way.” The 25-year-old’s comments were later echoed by Kompany, who added, “He’s definitely progressing well. He’s powerful, creative, and a constant goal threat. He also worked hard defensively for his team today.”

The two share a strong connection rooted in Saibari’s upbringing. Born in Terrassa, Spain, to Moroccan parents, Saibari spent part of his youth in Belgium, where he trained at RSC Anderlecht—Kompany’s former youth club. “Saibari is Moroccan but also Belgian. At PSV, we often see players who were developed in Belgium performing exceptionally well,” noted the Bayern manager.

Saibari’s arrival addresses multiple needs for Bayern

With the acquisition of Saibari, Bayern Munich aim to strengthen several key areas of their squad. Owing to his versatility, Saibari can operate as a backup for left winger Luis Díaz as well as striker Harry Kane.

Originally, that position was targeted for Anthony Gordon, who has since joined FC Barcelona from Newcastle United. Saibari primarily featured as a number 10 for PSV last season and is expected to play a similar central attacking midfield role in Munich.

Across 37 competitive matches last season, Saibari contributed 19 goals and nine assists, starting in a central role in 26 of those fixtures. Most recently, he scored twice for Morocco in a friendly against Madagascar, underlining his growing influence at both club and international levels.
